Incredible! iPhone is Disabled, try again in 23614974 minutes! (2023)

There’s a piece of news from tech.qq.com that someone inserted the wrong passcodes for 5 times and got the notification, “iPhone is disabled, try again in 23614974 minutes!” That is really unbelievable! 23614974 minutes is about 45 years! You may think it’s a prank. But it did happen on that poor guy and he at lastwent to the Apple Store and got the iOS system reinstalled. And it turns out that the problem is caused by jail-breaking and changing of iOS system.

Incredible! iPhone is Disabled, try again in 23614974 minutes! (1)
iPhone is disabled (edited from “5 minutes”)

What will it be like if insert wrong passcode successively on normal iPhone or iPad?

As the journalist and Apple Store staff tested, if you insert the wrong passcode for 1 to 5 times, there will only be red notifications saying the passcode is wrong, and you needn’t wait to give it another try.

For the 6th time you insert a wrong passcode, it will report, “iPhone is disabled, try again in 1 minute”. And the phone will be locked, and you won’t be able to insert passcode again until 1 minute later.

For the 7th time, the iPhone will show, “iPhone is disabled, try again in 5 minutes”.

For the 8th time, the iPhone will be locked for 15 minutes, and for the 9th time, it will be locked for 60 minutes to insert passcode again.

If you insert the wrong passcode for 10th time, the iPhone will be disabled and you will have to connect it to iTunes to unlock.

How to fix it if your iPhone is disabled?

If your iPhone is disabled and has to be connected to iTunes, you can connect it to an authorized computer, and the Enter Passcode window will show again. If you insert the right passcode this time, your iPhone will be all right again.

If you forget the passcode completely, I’m afraid that the only way to make it back to work is to reinstall. But everything on the iPhone will be erased completely. If you’ve backup something with iTunes before, you can still recover some of them to the iPhone again. If you haven’t backup anything, there’s some possibility that you may get back some information with data recovery tools lilke iFonebox, but the big chance is that you can’t get back anything since the data is erased completely.

At last, concluded the Miss Zhang from the Apple Store, the reason why Apple made the passcode process like that is to protect data in case the iPhone or iPad is stolen. So the best way to avoid all those bad possibilities to be happen is to remember your passcode tightly.

It also happens when the screen is replaced. All you have to do is make sure it connects to wifi so it can set the time. then it should work. It looks like her phone was connected to wifi so I’m not sure if that was her problem.

Another reason NOT to jailbreak. Is it really “necessary” anyway? Apple has added in a lot of the features that jailbreakers were getting. I like to play around with my technology too, but I also want it to be secure and stable. I need my iPhone to work 100% of the time every day.

Yes your device can be locked for that ridiculous amount of time, but there is a remedy — connecting your device to iTunes as the article suggests. This, however, is absolutely no result of jailbreaking.

My lovely kids (8yrs, 5yrs, & 3yrs) accidentaly locked my wife’s iPod for 22 million minutes! It has been a long time since it has been backed up, and we did not want to loose the pics that were on it.
I have two computers at our house. One is my wife’s, one is mine. My wife’s computer would not do anything to fix this prob. I spent many hours and downloads with RecBoot, Tinyumbrella, Redsn0w, and Gecko Toolkit trying to fix it to no avail. For what ever reason, my wife’s computer would not recognize the iPod on any of these except iTunes.
***I knew that I had backed up her iPod on my computer many months ago, so I hooked it up to mine, and within a few seconds, the iPod went to the “Slide to Unlock” screen!! We knew the passcode, so we were good to go from there!! Thats all it takes!!!***
If i had only seen something similar to this MANY hours ago, it would have saved me allot of headache trying to get this to work. So hopefully someone else can benefit from this post.

The part about the iPhone increasing minutes to attempt to unlock your phone it true. Once you are disabled and it says connect to iTunes your phone it done. I have gotten to the 10th failed attempt and was permanently locked out even after connecting to iTunes on the computer I use to back up. On iTunes I can see my phone and the desktop and all the aps, I can even see the storage breakdown at the bottom of the screen. What is not present is the lock code screen, just the black screen telling me to connect to iTunes. I cannot restore from backup as iTunes asks me to remove Find My iPhone from my phone first… brilliant since I can’t get into it because it is locked.

The most reason is date and time settings. It happens to me a lot since i remove the battery from iphone 4 while doing repairs.

When you remove battery date goes back to 1960’s or 1980’s. and time becomes 6:00pm. That doesnt match the information on your iphone and it becomes disabled.

Because of that phone disable itself for more than million minutes.

The best way is to put a working sim card in it and reboot 2 times. While your sim register to network it sets your date and time automaticly to today. And you can use your phone without erasing it.

It worked for me more than 100 times.
